    Early Life and Education: He was born on August 15, 1975, in Nasarawa, Kano State. He attended Giginyu Special Primary School and Government Secondary School Tarauni before studying electrical engineering at the Federal College of Education Technical Bichi.


    Career: Maikatanga's career began in 1992. He initially worked with several photo studios before venturing into photojournalism in 2000. He has worked as a reporter and photographer for publications like FIM Magazine, Leadership Newspaper, and Daily Trust newspaper. Since 2021, he has been running his own company, Sani Maikatanga Photography. His work is often featured by prominent international media outlets such as BBC Hausa, Reuters, Associated Press, and The Guardian.

    Awards and Recognition: He has received numerous awards and honors for his photography. His photograph, "Fishers on the Run," taken at the Argungu Fishing Festival, won first place in the Global Landscapes Forum (GLF) Africa 2022 Photo Competition. He also received a Wiki Loves Monuments 2022 award for his photograph of the Kano Golden Jubilee roundabout.
