Kaduna International Film Festival Partners with Lipton for Short Film Competition

The Kaduna International Film Festival (KADIFF), now in its 8th edition, has announced an exciting Short Film Competition in partnership with Lipton. This initiative is designed to encourage creativity among young filmmakers while promoting the culture of storytelling through film.

The competition invites young filmmakers to submit short films of not more than 10 minutes. The films must creatively depict friends or families sharing their stories on how they enjoy breakfast with Lipton. This collaboration highlights the importance of family, friendship, and the everyday moments that bring people together.

Prizes to Be Won

The Kaduna International Film Festival continues to grow as a platform for celebrating African stories, and this collaboration with Lipton promises to add more flavor to the vibrant film culture in Nigeria.

Sani Mohammed Maikatanga is a well-known Nigerian photojournalist and documentary photographer. He is recognized for his work that focuses on indigenous people, isolated communities in northern Nigeria, and traditional activities like the Argungu fishing festival and Durbar horse racing.


Early Life and Education: He was born on August 15, 1975, in Nasarawa, Kano State. He attended Giginyu Special Primary School and Government Secondary School Tarauni before studying electrical engineering at the Federal College of Education Technical Bichi.


Career: Maikatanga's career began in 1992. He initially worked with several photo studios before venturing into photojournalism in 2000. He has worked as a reporter and photographer for publications like FIM Magazine, Leadership Newspaper, and Daily Trust newspaper. Since 2021, he has been running his own company, Sani Maikatanga Photography. His work is often featured by prominent international media outlets such as BBC Hausa, Reuters, Associated Press, and The Guardian.

Awards and Recognition: He has received numerous awards and honors for his photography. His photograph, "Fishers on the Run," taken at the Argungu Fishing Festival, won first place in the Global Landscapes Forum (GLF) Africa 2022 Photo Competition. He also received a Wiki Loves Monuments 2022 award for his photograph of the Kano Golden Jubilee roundabout.

Saratu Abubakar is a Kannywood actress who has gained significant recognition in the Hausa-language film industry.

Career: She began her acting career in 2014 with the film Hajiya Babba. However, she gained widespread recognition and rose to fame for her portrayal of "Hajiya Baraka" in the long-running film series Zomu Zauna, and also appeared in Madafar Kaunah. She also featured in the popular series, Kwana Casa'in.

Prince Daniel Aboki is a prominent figure in the Nigerian media and film industries. He is widely known and respected for his decades of involvement in radio, where he earned the nickname "Aboki" (meaning "friend" in Hausa).

Career Highlights:

Radio: He is a multi-award-winning Broadcast Journalist and the Group Programme Director at Steam & Globe Broadcasting and Communications, overseeing stations like Cool FM, Wazobia FM, Nigeria Info, and Arewa Radio across various Nigerian cities (Lagos, Port Harcourt, Abuja, Kano, Onitsha). He anchors the "Una wake up" show on weekdays.

Film: Prince Daniel Aboki has successfully transitioned into the film industry as a director. His debut film, "Mai Martaba," has achieved significant recognition, becoming the third film chosen by the Nigerian Oscars Selection Committee to represent the country at the Academy Awards for the Best International Feature Film category. "Mai Martaba" is a Hausa-language historical epic from Kannywood (the Northern Nigerian film industry) and is noted as the most expensive Kannywood production to date. He has also directed the film "Kaka."

Media Consulting & Mentoring: He is a Media Consultant, Mentor, and Trainer.

UN Peace Ambassador: He holds the title of UN Peace Ambassador.

Education Advocacy: Prince Daniel Aboki has advocated for an overhaul of the school curriculum in Nigeria, particularly in mass communication, to meet the practical demands of the modern media industry. He emphasizes the need for versatility in skills such as video editing, scriptwriting, voice acting, photography, and on-air presentation.

Achievements and Recognition:

He is an alumnus of Cambridge International College, Jersey, UK, where he studied Mass Communication & Media Administration.

He has received over 98 national and international awards, including an Honorary Doctorate Degree from YIST, London, and Winner of Best Short Film at the Toronto Nollywood International Film Festival, Canada.

"Mai Martaba" has been nominated for awards at the African Film Festival (TAFF) in the United States and earned nominations at the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF) and the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA).

His selection for the Oscars for "Mai Martaba" is considered a significant milestone for Nigerian cinema, showcasing Kannywood's cultural contributions on a broader scale and promoting a more inclusive version of Nigerian cinema.

Prince Daniel Aboki's work is seen as a representation of Nigerian storytelling and filmmaking prowess, bringing the voices and stories of Nigerians to a global stage.
